The laid back vibe of Southern California (and San Diego in particular) makes it a hotbed of health and fitness – and yes, yoga studios.
But being that we’re particularly flexible, deepening your practice doesn’t always mean practicing at the same place.
Headed to the beach? Take your yoga mat. Staying in town? Channel a sturdy palm for tree pose in a downtown boutique. The options are practically unlimited and promise to help you find your perfect class. So start the search with these incredible studios in San Diego.
Trilogy Sanctuary holds up to its name – it’s a triple-threat of aerial yoga, an infrared-heated indoor studio space, and an organic, vegan cafe. The La Jolla location boasts a rooftop space with daily aerial and Vinyasa yoga classes overlooking the ocean as well as plenty of comfy nooks to enjoy your raw, organic, vegan (but delicious – trust us) smoothie, bowl, or meal. And on the rare rainy San Diego day, you can take your practice into their brand new infrared heated studio space.
Buddhi Yoga is a boutique yoga studio sitting pretty in the middle of La Jolla Cove. Their bright, open, airy studio replaces mirrors with floor-to-ceiling windows and is home to some of the best known instructors in La Jolla. Plus, with class times ranging from 630am to 8pm, there’s a time and class for everyone. And you can’t miss their partner, Shade Boutique. This fantastically curated shop expertly stocks the perfect clothing and yoga accessories.
Riffs Yoga Studio
Get your groove on in the in-between neighborhood of Bird Rock, Riffs is part music store, part your neighbor’s back deck, and part yoga studio. The tranquil location and outdoor jungle-like vibe are the perfect backdrop for a yoga class. Friday night classes (among others) also include live music. You’ll be wondering if you’re still in San Diego or somehow magically transported to Bali.
Spirit Yoga, in the heart of Pacific Beach, immediately gives you a sense of being home. The staff is friendly, the studio is beautiful, and the classes are fun. Outside of a jam-packed Vinyasa yoga schedule (with classes for all levels), they also offer monthly blacklight yoga parties/classes. Body paint, glow sticks, great music, a fun flow, and wine after? Sounds like a great Saturday night.
Bird Rock Yoga
Despite the name, Bird Rock Yoga is actually located in Pacific Beach (just two quick blocks from the beach). This studio exudes community. It’s cozy, warm, and welcoming and everyone seems to be on a first name basis. Want to take your class outside of the studio? They offer twice weekly beachfront donation classes at Law Street Beach as well (and conveniently schedule them during sunset, because duh).
Visiting Ocean Beach is like traveling back to the hippie heyday – tie-dye sightings are a regular occurrence. So naturally, Indie Yoga fits perfectly into this neighborhood. In addition to the expected Vinyasa style classes, you’ll find options like Yin/Yang flow with sound healing (ever experienced it? Do it.) and breathwork classes. The perfectly heated studio rounds out the full experience, leaving you feeling like a new person upon leaving class.
Bliss Paddle Yoga
Yoga. On. A. Stand-Up. Paddleboard. There’s really not much else you need to know. Combine a fun, outdoor workout on the water with your favorite yoga poses and you’re set to have the best day. Mantra Yoga and Juice Bar
Have you ever felt like all you needed after finishing a yoga class is a freshly prepared green juice? How about an acai bowl? Well, Mantra has you covered. Squeezing into Carlsbad, this combo yoga studio/juice bar was one of the first of its kind – and continues to be one of the best.
The UTC area of La Jolla is best known for its numerous office buildings, but hidden in between is Sol Yoga. This heated studio is a peaceful gem in an otherwise concrete neighborhood. Step inside the front doors and transport to a calm space where an expert instructor will guide you through a smart (and sweaty) flow.
The House of Yogi
The Midway district of Point Loma is better known for traffic, strip clubs, and big-box stores than it is for yoga. Luckily, along came the House of Yogi. This bright yoga studio employs large windows and beautiful decor to help you forget where you are and turn inward on your mat. Join them for a range of classes, well spaced throughout the day.
The Little Yoga Studio
The name could not be more fitting for this one-room yoga studio in downtown San Diego. When you open the door to The Little Yoga Studio you are literally walking into the studio space. Though, ‘little’ is juussst right. Its simple, wood focused design is warm and welcoming directly off of the street and onto your mat.
Pura Vida Yoga
Pura Vida Yoga is incredibly downtown and extra convenient. Just steps away from the Gaslamp District and the Convention Center, it’s a great location for not only locals but visitors to San Diego as well. Their classes range from restorative to Vinyasa flow, so all levels of yogis will feel welcome.
In the up-and-coming community of Golden Hill, you’ll find Mosaic Yoga. Mosaic has a sister studio in Charlottesville, VA and both studios were founded by a husband and wife power duo who wanted to bring more than just yoga to their communities. And they did. They also offer a variety of health, leadership, and spiritual development classes, workshops, and teachings.
Pilgrimage of the Heart
Providing the communities of North Park and Normal Heights with their traditional yoga option is Pilgrimage of the Heart Yoga. Infusing a physical practice with a serious dose of spiritualism is the vibe at Pilgrimage. It’s that “every class is life-changing” feel. Between the two studios there are classes available almost every hour of the day to get your mind and body fix.
