It’s no secret San Franciscans have embraced avo toast as our unofficial breakfast of champions. But this fancy toast is more than just a trend, with San Francisco Chronicle uncovering multiple Bay Area recipes dating back 100+ years.
Enter: Toasty — the city’s official toast of the town.
The first avo toast bar in the city, Toasty caters to the avocado-obsessed, serving simple, swanky, sweet, and savory toasts to sink your teeth into — after you get that snap, of course.
At the corner of Union and Octavia, Toasty’s right at home in the mecca for after-workout bites and brunching. “Eggy Toasty” is a post-recovery favorite, with two poached eggs over a smooth layer of smashed avocado. “Brekkie Toasty” offers a sweet surprise with layered avocado and peanut butter, topped with fresh bananas, strawberries, and coconut. Every “toasty” is served on thick, toasted sourdough, or you can get SRSLY’s deliciously dense gluten-free bread as an option.
Owner Sofía Pinzón is a Colombia native who became an avo toast addict when she moved to the US. Believing you eat with your eyes, she dreamt up an all-things-avocado café, serving healthy, tasty toasts that are almost too pretty to eat (we’ll toast to that).
All of Pinzón’s creations are served on a wooden cutting board and topped with colorful, edible flowers. There are also ‘gram-worthy açai bowl and chia seed pudding options when you’re feeling some lighter fare.
Toasting at 2760 Octavia, the cozy space is open for breakfast and lunch from 7:30am to 5pm (closed Mondays) and 9am to 4pm on weekends. There is bar seating and a few tables outside to toast al fresco. They also serve coffee, tea, and espresso, with non-dairy milk options and a matcha latte for your full-on superfood fix.
Plus, they’re on UberEats and Postmates to get toasted from your couch, or you can check out the ToastySF Instagram whenever you feel like indulging your avocado obsession. So… always.
