Mendocino Farms, the SoCal-based chain catering to health-conscious, hungry humans looking for the best farm-fresh lunch options around, has finally brought their salads and sandwiches to SF!
Back To Their Roots
It’s only fitting that Mendocino would set their sights on San Francisco — founders Ellen Chen and Mario Del Polo are both native to the Bay Area, and the sandwich market’s food and culture is inspired by local staples like Bakesale Betty and Tartine.
So we weren’t totally surprised when they opened their first San Francisco location right in the heart of FiDi in the historic Merchants Exchange Building.
Seasonal Food Coming to You Fast
If you’re not familiar with Mendocino Farms, here’s the deal. This fast-casual shop is known for their healthy selection of seasonal sandwiches, classic favorites (that never leave the menu), and innovative salads all made with the freshest ingredients possible.
And it doesn’t matter if you’re vegan, vegetarian, or gluten-free — there’s something for everyone. Choose from options like a vegan BBQ house-smoked organic tempeh sandwich with slaw and pickled onions on ciabatta or an heirloom BLT featuring Scarborough Farm’s heirloom tomatoes, nitrate-free applewood-smoked bacon, and arugula on fresh-baked buckwheat bread. Yum!
Gluten-free or just not feeling the bread? You don’t have to skip out on your sandwich — many of their sandwiches can also be requested gluten-free.
But if you’re in the mood for something lighter, their salads are equally as satisfying. We’re already craving the Save Drake Farm’s Salad, which is loaded with shaved, roasted Mary’s free range chicken breast, marinated Drake Family Farm goat cheese, pink lady beets, green apples, dried cranberries, honey roasted almonds, greens, and more.
The First of Its Kind
Mendocino Farms’ new location on California St. isn’t just their first in SF spot, it’s also their largest location to date, clocking in at a whopping 5,882 square feet. Not only that, it will also be their first location to offer breakfast, coffee (from local Verve Coffee), and grab-and-go options!
So whether you’ve got time to pull up a chair enjoy yourself at their communal seating, banquettes, or outdoor patio, or need to take your meal to go — if you live or work in downtown, this is about to be your new favorite lunch spot.
