Oren’s Hummus is Dishing Out Healthy Middle Eastern Eats in SoMa

Kick your Sabra hummus habit out the door because the Middle Eastern hot spot Oren’s Hummus set up shop in SoMa.

For all of you who work on the Peninsula, you’re probably familiar with this famous lunch spot known for their creamy Israeli-style hummus. But Oren’s has headed north, wafting the aroma from their spicy shakshuka in another corner of the city.

So, Oren makes good hummus?

Oren’s Hummus originated on Palo Alto’s main drag, University Ave., back in 2011. Its founder and namesake, Oren Dobronsky, is a serial entrepreneur having sold four successful startups in the tech world before opening Oren’s. Together with his partner (in two senses of the word) Nancy Petri, they’ve developed a cuisine centered around this wonderous hummus.

After opening the first Oren’s Hummus location, it quickly became a cult favorite for its attention to healthy options, ample vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free choices, and even a gluten-free pita — the lunch favorite encourages everyone to “Rip. Eat. Scoop” (hummus, that is). And since there are multiple locations along the Peninsula, Dobronsky partnered with acclaimed restaurant consultants Mistie Cohen and Chef David Cohen to show more of the Bay Area the power of the chickpea. With their expansion, it’ll be the first time Oren’s is venturing into the city itself, settling right in the heart of the startup world on Third and Mission St.

More than just hummus

The Cohen duo knows the restaurant industry, and since 2012, they’ve made hummus their business. That’s why their SoMa location takes the very best of service and hospitality from their spots in Cupertino, Mountain View, and Palo Alto, offering a little convenience to busy San Franciscans. Oh, and did we mention they are open for breakfast? Enjoy your Israeli shakshuka (in their signature spiced tomato sauce) on the patio, or the Hummus Beets bowl among the greenery inside. If anything, you can always have your choice of hummus to go.

And if you want some inspiration or something to show your friends to convince them to join you for a lunch date, head to Instagram.
