We know Queen West is already the place to go for coffee shops and restaurants, park hangs, and farmers markets, but now we’re running over for a whole new reason — Toronto’s first-ever “nuttery” and café.

NUTS ABOUT NUTS

Yes, it’s exactly what it sounds like! The Roasted Nut opened its doors at the end of October and is making all our nutty dreams come true with its counter-serve bar full of the freshest in dry-roasted almonds, walnuts, cashews, pistachios — served straight-up, paired with a specialty coffee beverage, or ground into butter and added to a menu dedicated to “functional snacking”.

Step inside the café and you’ll be hit with an aroma that will instantly make your mouth water. It’s the on-site, small-batch, dry-roasting done on the daily, bringing out a ton of flavour while keeping all the nutritional value — no frying or added oils found here!

The Roasted Nut came out of a need to find an easy, fresh snack option full of fuel to power you throughout your day. And it does it in style. The nuttery is bright and open, complete with some comfy seating, an exposed-brick wall, plants, #nutfacts (did you know almonds are related to peaches?), and a view of the custom-made Turkish roasting equipment.

SNACK MINDFULLY

Okay, enough teasing — it’s time to share what we’re all here for: the nuts! As we mentioned, you can do a lot more with these nutrition powerhouses than just eat them by the handful (of course, you can do that too).

If you’re looking for a snack on the spot, fill up a paper cone with one to three types of nuts, grab freshly ground nut butter (the small size comes with a spoon!), or Build-A-Bowl with a base of chia pudding, overnight oats, granola, or yogurt and top with nuts and unlimited toppings.

Oh, did we not mention the toppings? In addition to all the unsalted, salted, and flavoured nuts (we’ve got our eyes on the Everything Cashews), you can throw in health-conscious additions like goji berries, dried blueberries, and sultanas.

You can also take these nuts to-go. Fill a Bag O’ Nuts that you can weigh and pay, or go with the Go Nuts! option and create a custom mix or choose from seasonal selections. There are house-made treats too, like raw energy balls and granola bars.

We suggest pairing any of these choices with a freshly brewed coffee, macchiato, or flat white, as they source high-quality beans from one of the city’s favourite roasters, Pilot Coffee Roasters. There’s also a partnership with Toronto-based non-dairy milk line Mylko, so feel free to sub in almond or oat milk — every sip will boost the flavour of those crunchy, roasted nuts. Though, no matter what you choose to fuel your day, you’ll have the best snack on the block. We’ll cashew there!
