MSP is fit. There’s no denying that. The natural landscape of the Twin Cities is perfect for running, biking, and exploring. But sometimes (especially in the winter!), you might want to switch it up and try a new routine — particularly if that routine can be done from the warmth of a studio.
Good news: that’s easy to do! Yoga? CrossFit? Epic studio cycling sesh? MSP’s got it (and more). And we did all the heavy lifting for you. Here’s a helpful guide to find the best new sweat spot for YOU!
CycleBar in Uptown and Woodbury is a prime spot to push those pedals and get in a killer quad burn. The instructors are just as energetic as the music they pick for their playlists, and they keep their schedule unique with charity rides and themed classes. Take it from us and check out their Throwback Thursday rides, complete with musical masterpieces from the ’90s. We’ll see you in the saddle!
This South Minneapolis studio offers 60-minute endurance rides and 30-minute strength rides, so you can mix up your workout routine. And if you’re in the mood for cardio and relaxation, Urban Cycle has that, too! Their Zen Cycle sessions combine cycling with Vinyasa for the best of both worlds.
Cycling, yoga, CrossFit, personal training, and barre. You’ll get “firm” at this North Loop studio in no time at all! Feel the burn in a Cycle 45 class, and stop by the same spot for some restorative yoga the next day. If you’re new to the cycling world, reserve a seat in the free 30-minute intro class. That way, you can see if this revolutionary workout is right for you!
The Shed is a one-stop shop for all things fitness: cycling, BodyPump, HIIT, strength circuits, and more. But one of this Uptown studio’s best offerings is their BodySHED Bootcamp. As a BodySHEDDER, you show up three days a week for six consecutive weeks for interval training that’ll whip you into shape. The program is designed to help you shed and SHRED!
The Orangetheory movement is gaining popularity in Fitt cities all over the country, and rightfully so! This circuit-style workout is efficient and fun. With 11 locations in the metro, it’s easier than ever to make it to this one-hour class that incorporates weights, rowing, and running. You’ll watch the “color” of your heart rate as you break a sweat, helping you figure out how you can get the most out of your workout (hint: orange is good).
Need an endorphin fix(x)? This studio, in the Lake Harriet neighborhood, is dedicated to tailored bootcamp workouts in both one-on-one and class settings. The trainers challenge you to get the most out of cardio and strength training, and keep you coming back for more. Fixx regulars learn how to make fitness a way of life instead of a daily chore.
Nothing will work your entire body quite like indoor rowing machines. And working out in a group as one crew can help you row that extra mile. At weRow in Northeast, you will benefit from team instruction and learn the proper technique to really feel that burn. There’s even a Zenflow class where you can row hard and breathe deep in the same 45 minutes.
Take a run with the Fly Feet gang in Downtown MPLS (and now Wayzata) and you’ll never look at treadmills in the same way again! No more boring, isolated runs that make you dread running inside. The classes are high-intensity, and the team environment will inspire you to push yourself to get amazing results. As an added bonus, skilled coaches are available to analyze your gait, so you can get the best out of your run and prevent injury.
ZeSa classes are super-unique workouts that build balance, flexibility, and strength, all at the same time! Exercises with free weights and low-intensity movements are performed while balancing on unstable activators that challenge you to stay grounded. Talk about next level! They’ll tell you this first: the strength you build at ZeSa in Downtown MPLS will help you in all of your other workouts.
It’s a bird, it’s a plane… or maybe it’s just you hanging in the air at The Aviary. That’s right — aerial fitness is the name of the game at this studio. Get toned while using resistance and gravity to strengthen your muscles. Classes range in intensity from HIIT to gentle yoga or slow n’ easy sessions. You can find them in Minnetonka and Minneapolis.
Alchemy is the mecca for workout junkies looking for an efficient sweat sesh. The workouts are different every day and never last longer than 50 minutes. But one thing’s for sure — you will always get a mix of yoga, strength, and conditioning exercises. The classes are so dynamic that they will be over before you know it (you won’t be staring at the clock — you won’t have time!). Plus, Alchemy has four locations, meaning you can always find a class time that works for you.
Want to discover the best strength workouts for you, personally? The Movement Minneapolis uses biofeedback to discover what “movements” are good for your unique body. Here, you will set goals and tweak your workouts to make gradual progress every time you enter the Uptown-based studio. There’s no “one-size-fits-all” program, just individualized techniques that’ll push you onward and upward in your fitness journey.
This studio has set the barre high for ballerina-esque workouts. The Bar Method teachers graduate from a rigorous training program, and are always there to ensure their students use the proper techniques. (In other words, instead of worrying about your form, you can focus on the exercises!) Whether you take a class at the Edina or North Loop location, this graceful-meets-gritty workout will definitely get your heart pumping and leave your muscles burnin’.
Join the Haute community in SLP and keep yourself looking haute! This St. Louis Park studio offers eight different classes to tone your entire body. Our favorite is the Haute Fab-45 express class. You’ll be in and out in under an hour with sore muscles to prove it — perfect for a lunch break!
Tangletown is one of the best CrossFit boxes in the area, and not just because they offer a monthly Barbells and Brews class. The trainers welcome beginners and athletes of all levels, and make sure that you get the most out of your workouts. After only a few workouts, your fellow CrossFitters will feel like family! Join the community by attending a free trial class on the first or third Thursday of every month at their Richfield location.
New to CrossFit? We’ve got the perfect spot for you. This Brooklyn Park studio has been around for almost 10 years, and has some of the best CrossFit trainers in the scene. Enjoy bumpin’ beats and camaraderie as you complete intense sessions and strengthen your body from head to toe.
You can find CorePower studios in both of the Twin Cities, and, a major bonus, get the first week of classes free at any studio! If you don’t know, CorePower takes yoga to the next level, striking a balance between relaxation and intensity. Grab your mat and be sure to dress for sweat, because you’ll be “puddling” during this workout.
With a class called Yoga Beats, you know this place is fun. Flow to the music as you move your body and get your heart rate up with the YOD method. With 20 minutes of warm-up, 25 of HIIT, and 15 of cool down, YOD will leave you feeling sweaty, rejuvenated, and relaxed all at the same time. In addition to the power sessions at this Uptown studio, they offer slow flows and $5 classes held by new instructors.
Dubbing their 50-minute HIIT classes “the Twin Cities’ most effective workout” led by “the most likable team in fitness”, ALTR talks big game. Fortunately, they deliver. But don’t just take our word for it! With a five-star rating on ClassPass and legions of devotees who flock to this North Loop studio for some calorie-blasting, heart rate-rising, music-blasting action, this is a workout you’ll want to do again and again. Fitt Tip: the studio here is worth a shoutout, as well. Everything from the sprung floor to the communal workspace to the kombucha and cold brew on tap is giving us major heart-eye emoji vibes.
Looking for a workout that packs a punch and leaves you feeling like a total badass? TITLE Boxing Club is where it’s at! With six gyms in the metro, making it to the bag is no sweat (unlike the workout you’ll be getting!) Whether you’re a seasoned pro or looking to challenge yourself with a new workout like kickboxing or MMA, TITLE is sure to be a hit.
