MEC is celebrating the opening of its new flagship location all month long starting on April 1, and the new space in Mt. Pleasant is so much more than just a store. Our favourite feature? The in-store bouldering wall!

Michelle Kuhnreich, creator of the infamous A.S.S class, has added a new workout to her roster. In A.W (pronounced like “awe”) combines ankle weights, Pilates balls, and resistance bands for a workout that’ll boost more than just your derrière — catch it every Monday at the recently opened downtown location of TurF.

  • ⚡️ Plant-based Power

Copper Branch, the highly popular, Montreal-born plant-based eatery, is finally opening its doors in British Columbia for the very first time — hopefully by the end of February. In the heart of Yaletown, you’ll find their infamous, internationally-inspired bowls (the Aztec, Asian Fusion, and Mediterranio), mouth-watering burgers and sandwiches (we’ve got our eye on the Bacon Maple Tempeh Sandwich and the Mushroom Galaxy Burger), as well as smoothies, organic teas and lattes, and all-day breakfast options.

  • 🥗 Salad Social

We’re always on the hunt for fresh places to refuel post sweat, and with the 2020 opening of CMMN GRND in Olympic Village, plus studios like Lagree West and Spin Society in the vicinity, the opening of Field & Social’s new salad-focused spot in Mount Pleasant is a most-welcome addition to the area. You can order ahead when you’re in a hurry or sit in to enjoy their vast array of brightly coloured salads and bowls that focus on seasonal ingredients — often taking advantage of partnerships with local chefs and businesses like Blue Heron Creamery and the Juice Truck.

  • 🥊 All-City Refreshments

When the end of the week looms, we’re often stuck choosing between heading out for some Friday fun or getting in a solid sweat before the weekend’s agenda takes over. You too? All-City Athletics has answered our prayers with a solution: Boxing & Beers. Now on Fridays, you can hit the well-loved studio for a class sure to get your heart—and arms—pumping before grabbing a drink and settling in to hang out with the ACA community.

  • ☕️ Make My Day, Matchstick

There’s something refreshing about walking into a Matchstick cafe — and it’s more than just the caffeine fix. The spotless, design-forward, community-oriented coffee roaster and kitchen works wonders with a hearty breakfast, serving up everything from fresh-baked bread and flavourful juices to takeaway sandwiches and salads. And they’ve had no trouble winning over the hearts of coffee-drinkers all over Vancouver; they just opened their FIFTH cafe at 1305 Davie this fall, right by the beach.

  • 😎 The Baddest New Class In Town

Kondi is kicking our butts into gear with their freshest offering: the Bad ASS Class. The boutique HIIT, TRX, and callanetics studio in South Granville and Yaletown is well-known for its hardcore classes, where you’re guaranteed to work up a sweat. This new addition is strength-based and focuses on the glutes (obviously), utilizing Kondi’s signature moves alongside their classic combination of treadmill work (five minutes) and lower-body strength (20 minutes), repeated twice. Sounds waitlist-worthy to us.

  • 🍔 Comfort Food Remix

Combining plant-based with hearty, comfort food-inspired offerings—a winning combination for the winter months—Beetbox opened its doors on October 10. Whether you’re after a late-night burger, a sauce-laden vegetable dish, or some serious chilli cheeze fries, the wealth of options won’t disappoint. Add a vegan milkshake, craft beer, or BC wine on tap, and we’re going to feel hard-pushed to not keeping coming back again, and again, and… you get the idea.

  • 🥊 Our Own Red Room

Travelling up the West Coast from LA roots, Barry’s Bootcamp is bringing its hardcore, full-body workouts to Vancouver in 2020. The infamous “Red Room” will be landing within the city limits, playing host to HIIT classes that will push you beyond your usual boundaries and leave you feeling completely elevated (and sweaty). Plus, the studio comes along with an energizing Fuel Bar of smoothies and snacks, a refreshing lineup of amenities to take you from sweat to socializing, and a well-stocked shop of Barry’s goodies.
