Say hello to Club Row — you may have seen them around over the last year, but they are making fast friends with Vancouver’s fitness community for good reason. They’re changing the way we look at one particular piece of exercise equipment—“the rower”—creating a whole new, music-charged genre.
Founded in Vancouver, the concept has been brought to life in the form of a modern studio in the bustling Gastown neighbourhood. The concept, a music-driven fitness rowing class with an underground, edgy vibe, is special. Club Row claims it’s also the first of its kind in the world. So, you know… they have that going for them.
With humble beginnings, founder Nathan Morris started the company out of his garage in East Vancouver. Now, he is witnessing his dreams come true as all the grand plans come to fruition.
Club Row is taking a very underrated piece of equipment at the gym and making it cool. Those looking to get in a good sweat session can row in unison on industry-leading Concept 2 rowers to only the most high-energy rap playlists. It’s a fun and motivating way to get people amped up for a workout machine that some find to be boring and repetitive.
Morris’s inspiration was to show the natural connection there is between music and movement. Every knows music is obviously a great way to inspire people to move, but rap music in particular is a motivator for a lot of people when they really want to go hard in their workouts. Club Row will even tell you that their classes are like ’80s rap: game-changing.
Besides being tons of fun with engaging instructors—each with a different rhythm, style, and flow—this workout also hits all your muscle groups. It targets the entire body and gives a high-intensity, low-impact cardio and strength workout you can feel good about after you walk (possibly with jelly legs) out of class.
Ready for 50 minutes of HIIT and hits? Check it out for yourself at their flagship studio on West Pender.
