It’s true: we all scream for ice cream — but sometimes it can be hard to find to find ice cream that not only satisfies your sweet tooth, but is also cruelty-free. If you ask us, in a perfect world, every dessert would be 100% vegan and guilt-free!
Thankfully, Stuffies Pastries Cafe in North Vancouver is offering up vegan, gluten-free versions of a beloved Asian dessert called taiyaki — all filled with their house-made non-dairy ice-cream.
You must be wondering: what is taiyaki? Originating in Japan, taiyaki is a cake-like batter that is cooked in a fish-shaped iron mould, resulting in something similar to a waffle — soft and pillowy on the inside, with a golden, crispy exterior. Nowadays, taiyaki can be found all around the world, but thanks to Stuffies Pastries Cafe, vegans don’t need to feel left out.
Stuffies Pastries Cafe has developed a vegan, gluten-free taiyaki — which is then stuffed with a housemade soft-serve as well as other vegan toppings such as fruits, gummies, mochi (delightfully chewy rice cakes), and azuki beans.
And while some might shake their head at a 100% cruelty-free dessert, we promise that these taste just as good as, if not better, than their dairy counterparts.
The ice cream has already been causing a stir across social media, and with good reason — they are amazingly photogenic and drool-worthy!
Now that you’re sold on this cruelty-free creation, you’re probably wondering where to find these delightful treats. Head to their store in North Vancouver, where you can choose from a wide selection of flavours such as Exotic Tropical, Choco Heaven, and Buttery Caramel. Really, how can you go wrong?
Stuffies Pastries Cafe is located at 1571 Oxford St. and is open Monday to Friday from 7am–6pm, and Saturdays from 7am–3pm, and closed on Sundays.
