Call us crazy, but even with all the sweaty spin studios and calming yoga classes in the city, we’ve always thought one key fitness craze was missing, that is... until now.
Grab those holds and brace yourselves — one of the best climbing gyms on the East Coast is coming to DC.
Brooklyn Boulders already calls NYC, CHI, and Boston home, so it was only a matter of time before the company claimed some land in the capital. And claim they did, because BKB DC has secured a spot in the highly-anticipated Eckington Yards development in NoMa, and they’re planning to open as soon as 2020.
Climber convenience is the key here. Although we never minded the journey out to Earth Treks in Alexandria or Rockville, having a huge new space dedicated to top-roping and bouldering within the District is what we really needed.
There’s a reason that climbers can’t get enough of this top-notch gym. It probably has something to do with the inviting, no-judgment atmosphere or the fact that you can spend an entire day here and never get bored. And you can expect nothing less from the upcoming DC location.
When you’re not crushing crags and sweating it out on the walls alongside your friends, you’ll be able to grab a coffee or settle in and get some work done because word is first DC-area facility will include both a cafe and co-working space.
But don’t let the modern, industrial design and newly-set routes fool you — you don’t have to be a pro to chalk up here. BKB prides itself on being a place for everyone, no matter your level or (lack of) skill. And whether you’re just learning to get your feet off the floor, or you’re ready to hang upside down, you’ll be able to take your pick from a range of bouldering and climbing classes meant to ensure you feel confident every time you step foot on the wall.
Not only that, unlike traditional gyms where everyone keeps to themselves, BKB loves connecting members with one another, so don’t be surprised when you check the schedule and find a never-ending list of fitness classes and non-fitness related events planned. From yoga and bootcamps to board game nights and drum circles, this is about to become your new favorite place to climb, connect, and hang out. Oh, and did we mention there will also be a sauna?
A lot of other details about BKB DC are still hush-hush, but we can let you know from personal experience that you can expect pretty much the best climbing community (and experience) ever — from the people to the gym. In the meantime, keep an eye on their Instagram so you’ll be among the first to know when Brooklyn Boulders officially arrives in the DMV.
