We can all admit that workplace coffee usually falls somewhere in between undrinkable and subpar. But what if we told you the newest addition to the DC coffee scene is about to make your Monday morning meetings something to actually look forward to?
That’s right — New York-based micro-roaster and coffeehouse For Five Coffee has partnered with a real estate brand Carr Properties, which specializes in workplace developments, to bring their specialty brews from Queens straight to your DC Metro-area cup. As soon as fall 2019, you can stop by one of three new locations for high-quality coffee drinks teeming with bold flavors and the vibrancy and complexity of their hometown.
Although tied to office buildings, the cafes will be completely open to the public. That means you can walk by the Arlington, Alexandria, and Downtown DC spots and grab that Freddo Espresso or Matcha Shot no matter where you work.
If For Five’s current locations are any indication of what we’re in for, prepare to enter artsy coffee shops full of black-and-white walls with ultra-modern vibes. From industrial shelving lined with bags of roasted beans to hanging plants and greenery, you can bet these coffee stops are going to be your new go-to for a relaxed atmosphere with plenty of style.
Aesthetics aside, all three For Five Coffee sites will be pouring all sorts of signature blends and single-origin coffee drinks, along with a selection of delicious food items. Inspired by the Mediterranean—both owners are Greek and the executive chef is from Spain—this menu is something to get excited about.
Need a drink to power up your morning? Go for a cappuccino (in case you didn’t already know, that’s a Greek iced coffee). Looking for an afternoon pick-me-up? Choose The Five, a blend of cold brew, espresso, and chocolate with an orange twist. Either way, you’re sure to enjoy every single drop.
And if you’re planning on stopping by for a meal, we highly suggest doing so during breakfast hours. For Five’s new DMV cafes will offer dine-in and grab-and-go choices, with tons of vegan, gluten-free, and dairy-free varieties. Their current locations in New York, LA, and Chicago boast a morning lineup featuring options like a Coffee Protein Bowl topped with chia, cherries, and cocoa nib muesli, and Overnight Bircher Muesli that’s full of hemp seeds and blueberries, so you can guess DC’s menu will be just as mouth-watering.
There’s also a full selection of salads and sandwiches for lunch and dinner—like the Squash and Brussels Sprout Salad with apple-cider turmeric vinaigrette—that all pair well with a coffee, or, even better, a cocktail or glass of wine (they offer those, too). Need something sweet to finish out your day? For Five recently launched a roster of homemade cookies and ice creams. We’ll have a scoop the Blue Moon and Dragon Fruit on top of a Fruity Pebbles cookie, please!
In other words, DC has a lot to look forward to this fall. But while you wait, grab a bag of For Five coffee beans from their online shop and have it delivered to your door. Oh, and sign up for their VIP program, which will get you complimentary coffee, special discounts, and the latest news on when exactly these shops will open (word is the Alexandria digs will be open as early as October)!
