If you’ve ever binge-watched The Great British Baking Show or tried a Pimm’s Cup, you know that the UK has already given us so much. Well, the hits keep coming as Fitt-friendly Leon has finally crossed the pond to bring their health-conscious eats to the good ol’ US of A. And luckily for us, their first stop is Downtown DC.
Let’s get straight to the good stuff: the food! Leon serves food from 7am–9pm Monday through Friday, meaning you can swing by before work, after the gym, or even for a late dinner. The breakfast offerings (served until 11am) lean toward their British roots, with dishes like the Smoked Salmon & Avocado Egg Pot (two poached free-range eggs with smashed avo and quality salmon in one soul-warming bowl), porridge (made with traditional dairy or cashew milk), and breakfast sandwiches served on English muffins.
The All Day menu (anytime after 11am) includes some of our Mediterranean faves, like halloumi cheese and Moroccan meatballs. For plant-based people, there’s their savory sweet potato falafel and assorted Mezze options. They even allow you to filter the online menu by dietary restriction (in case you like to develop a plan of action before you walk into the joint). They’ve even boarded the gut-health train, serving probiotic-packed kombucha and blueberry-flavored kefir.
Nothing on the menu costs more than $10, and while that typically comes with a price (i.e. nutrition and quality), it seems that Leon has somehow mastered the art of budget-friendly food. They also have one more trick up their sleeves: serving these eats fast enough to keep up with the DC lunch rush. Most customers typically get in and out in less than three minutes (leaving you ample time to waste waiting for the Metro). That’s what we call some fast food.
Their L Street location is just the first of an estimated 20, so head to Leon, grab some ridiculously fast, terribly tasty fast food, and feel absolutely zero guilt chowing down on a Lamb Kofte Box on your way home from Barry’s Bootcamp, just two and a half blocks away.
